| Bill Cleaveland’s Tax Pledge |
| A Common Sense Approach to Today’s Challenges |
Roanoke, VA—William “Bill” Cleaveland, candidate for the Republican nomination for the 17th House of Delegates district, today joined Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling, 8 State Senators, and 22 members of the House of Delegates in signing Americans for Tax Reform’s Taxpayer Protection Pledge. In signing the Pledge, Cleaveland promises the taxpayers of the 17th VA House of Delegates district that he will oppose and vote against efforts to increase taxes. Cleaveland stated that state government, like our families, must learn to live within its means. He also said, “The insatiable appetite for government spending must be tempered by efforts to root out inefficiency and duplication of services.” Such effort could net the state billions of additional dollars without increasing taxes. Additionally, Cleaveland cited his transportation initiative (state licensing of offshore oil and gas drilling) as a model for addressing important state funding needs without adding to the tax burden on our families. “We’ve got to think outside of the box to maintain the quality of life Virginians deserve,” he said.
